Silver Linings Playbook
Careful Dolores Solatano, without Pat Solatano Sr.’s knowledge, releases her adult son Pat Solatano Jr. from a Maryland mental hospital after completing his eight-month sentence. Pat Jr. will be moving in with his parents at their Philadelphia home as part of this release. Although Pat Jr. was beaten up by his lover, Nikki, the institutionalization was caused by him. He was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Nikki left Pat Jr. and was issued a restraining warrant against him. He is currently on medication, which he does not take due to the side effects it causes him to feel. However, Pat Jr. believes he can live on his own by living a healthy lifestyle and seeking out the “silver Linings” in life. He wants to regain his job as substitute teacher and, more importantly, to reunite with Nikki. There are times when he struggles to cope. However, he is not as bad as some people who were never institutionalized. Ronnie, his best friend, has resorted into being a bookie in order to make a living. Ronnie’s wife Veronica and Tiffany Maxwell (Veronica’s sister who died), have their own problems. Tiffany and Pat Jr. embark on a friendship of love and hate based on the help they can offer each other in reaching their goals. As their relationship develops, they might reevaluate their goals. –Huggo
