Pretty Woman
Edward Lewis is a suave, wealthy man who can have anyone he likes. He needs a committed partner to keep him on the arm during social events in order to make his corporate raider income. He is now focusing more on his criminal enterprise with Philip Stuckey (his lawyer for ten years), and his pursuits in corporate raiding. Every woman he has had feels neglected, eventually abandoning him. Edward in Beverly Hills needs that lady on his arm as he works with Philip to take over James Morse’s company. He decides on the basis of a chance meeting to hire Vivian Ward, the Hollywood Boulevard hooker, as his escorte for the week. Because he needs someone who is committed to his work but not tied to him afterward, he does this. He also made this decision due to her surprise at how non-hookerish she was, aside from their chance meeting. Vivian is relatively new to Los Angeles, and she still needs to act and look the part. Edward doesn’t give her any money. She leaves it up to Vivian to figure out the rest. She is able to get a very unlikely Henry Higgins from Barney Thompson as the Beverly Wilshire Hotel manager. Barney must balance keeping the hotel’s high-end clients happy with the elegant decorum and accommodating those who come in looking to pay hourly rates. Barney and his team are able transform Vivian from a streetwalker to Cinderella. Now, it is up to Edward and her to decide if Vivian will be able to return to Hollywood Boulevard. –Huggo
