Paprika (1991)

Mimma is a young country girl who accepts to be a prostitute in 1950s Italy just before brothels were banned. In a flash, Mimma becomes Paprika in the hopes that she can raise enough money for her boyfriend, a good-for-nothing man. Soon, Paprika, despite her unsavory but lucrative occupation, will be able to have fun with it. She’ll travel from brothel to brothel in Rome, as she tries to make her mark. Despite her successful, but turbulent, journey of self-discovery and experience as well as sexual liberation, there’s still something missing from her seemingly complete life: the discovery of true love. Is Paprika supposed to be in passionate love? –Nick Riganas
