My Old Lady

Mathias Gold (Kevin Kline), an elderly penniless New Yorker of fifty years, arrives in Paris. He is cynical and wants to sell the Marais mansion his father had in his district. He discovers that his father had not told him that he acquired the house as a lease. This is a French tradition that he has never heard. Poor Mathias will not be able to sell his house in cash, at least for as long as Mathilde (Dame Maggie Smith), remains alive), and he will also have to give the elderly lady a pension. –Guy Bellinger
