Mary and The Witch’s Flower
Mary, a young girl from the countryside with Great-Aunt Charlotte is bored and lonely. There are no friends or adventures around. A mysterious cat leads Mary into a nearby forest. There she finds a broomstick, and the Fly-by-Night Flower, an uncommon plant which only blooms once in seven years. Mary is lifted by the combination of the broomstick and flower to Endor College, a magical school run by Madam Mumblechook (headmistress) and Doctor Dee (the brilliant). There are horrible things going on at school and Mary must tell a lie to make things right. Mary Stewart’s classic 1971 children’s novel “The Little Broomstick” inspired “Mary and The Witch’s Flower”, an action-packed movie that features jaw-dropping imaginations and ingenious characters. It also tells the story of a girl who struggles to find her place in the world. Ruby Barnhill, Academy Award-winners Kate Winslet (and Jim Broadbent) are the stars of this film.
