M (1931)

Berlin has seen a spate of kid abductions and child murders. Candy and other child-friendly items are used to lure the victims into accepting his trust. The murderer is still at large as no one has been arrested. Handwritten letters from the victim, which the killer sent to the paper for publication, are the most important pieces of evidence that the police have. A blind man, who bought a balloon from the murderer for one of his child victims, might have crucial information about the identity of the killer. Paranoid citizens are quick to tip off the murder squad, accusing anyone of any suspicious activity. This makes it even harder for them to catch the perpetrators of the most horrific crimes. Many want to get involved in the investigation, even the top criminals of the area, as the police have made it more difficult for them to carry out criminal activities. They both share the goal to capture the killer, but the police and criminals appear to have different goals, which could give the murderer an advantage in their pursuit. –Huggo
