Lolita

Humbert Humbert makes a stand against a man whose name he just learned in his home. Four years ago, the events which led to this confrontation began. Humbert, an European middle-aged man, has arrived in America to become a Professor in French Literature at Beardsley College. He decides to stay in Ramsdale in New Hampshire for the summer before he starts his job in the fall. As someone renting her room for the summer, he is called Charlotte Haze. He discovers that Charlotte is an air-spirited widow who has been living alone for seven years. Clare Quilty is a stage and television script writer who was invited to her women’s group meeting. She is said to be a close friend. These airs mask her loneliness, particularly since she is sexually aggressive but also liberated. Humbert views Charlotte as a joke, but he decides to rent it after meeting Charlotte’s provocative daughter Dolores Haze (more commonly referred to simply as Lolita), who he first sees in a bikini in his back yard. He falls in love with Lolita immediately, despite the fact that she is only in her teens and he becoming obsessed with her sexually. He’ll also discover that Charlotte shares the same feelings. Humbert is the one who does everything for Charlotte, but Lolita does it all alone. Based on his circumstances, Humbert decides that he wants to have a relationship in the summer with Charlotte to be close to Lolita. Humbert must figure out how to be with Lolita and keep Charlotte away from him in this new arrangement. Humbert is beginning to see that things are going his way. However, he doesn’t realize that Charlotte may not be the only obstacle between him and Lolita. The other factor is Lolita’s potential interest in other men and male sex members, whether they’re young or old. –Huggo
