Lincoln

As the American Civil War is moving inexorably towards its conclusion, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln attempts to pass the historic constitutional amendment that will ban slavery forever from the United States. His task will be a sprint against the clock, as peace could come any moment and the southern states returning to power may stop the amendment from becoming law. Lincoln will need to get enough votes from the recalcitrant Congress, using almost all means, before it’s too late and peace is possible. The president’s dilemma is that a quick peace could save thousands of lives. Lincoln is facing his own conscience crisis as the nation struggles to decide whether it wants slavery ended or a new war. –Jim Beaver
