Life of Pi

A Canadian writer meets Pi Patel, an Indian storyteller and requests that he tell the story of his childhood. Pi recounts his childhood in Pondicherry (India) and how he got his name. His father is a zookeeper and tells him that his municipality has stopped supporting the zoo. He decides to leave India for Canada where the animals he owns will also be sold. The animals board a Japanese cargo vessel with them and suddenly, they are hit by lightning. Pi is saved by a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker, an orangutan and a zebra in a boat. The two are lost in the Pacific Ocean with Richard Parker and an aggressive hyena starving them. Pi must find a way of survival. –Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
