Gerry Conlon, a young Belfastian (Daniel Day Lewis) admitted that he was actually in London during the incident. Conlon also admitted that he was not an ideal citizen after committing a petty theft while living in London. He claims his innocence in the 1974 bombing attack on the Guildford Pub, London. This event resulted in the deaths of several. He is a self-confessed non-political individual and he along with his three fellow-accused (the Guildford Four) are believed to be provisional I.R.A. members. They claim to be innocent despite having each signed a confession of guilt, which they claimed was signed under duress. They also have provable Alibis regarding the timing of the bombing. Joe McAndrew (Don Baker), an I.R.A. member, finally admits to the bombing. The bombing was admitted by a member. The Maguire Seven are seven other members of Gerry’s extended family, including his father Giuseppe Postlethwaite, who are charged with being accessory to the bombing. Gerry continues the Giuseppe’s work and works with Gareth Peirce, Dame Emma Thompson, to establish their collective innocence. Gareth is confronted with obstacles as she works on the campaign by Robert Dixon (Corin Regrave), who was responsible for the original investigation and interrogation of the four suspects on behalf of Police. –Huggo
