In My Father’s Den
Paul, a war reporter and prize winner, is forced to return to New Zealand after the death of his father. He was battle-scarred, world-weary, and Paul returns home to be with his family. Celia, a sixteen-year old discontented teenager, is able to see a new world that she had only imagined. Celia pursues friendship with him and is fascinated by his cynicism as well as her experience of the wider world. Many, including their respective families, disapprove of the friendship. When Celia disappears, Paul is made the prime suspect and becomes increasingly hated and persecuted for her disappearance. Paul must confront his family’s tragedy as well as the betrayal he suffered in childhood and face the terrible consequences of secrecy and silence that have surrounded him throughout his adult life. –bondish
