Humor Me

NATE (Jemaine Cllement), a once-respected New York playwright is having trouble finishing his play. His wife Maria Dizzia leaves him and takes their son. Desperate, broken, and incapable of paying the rent, Nate reluctantly moved in with his father, BOB (Elliott Gould), at his New Jersey retirement community. Bob is always quick to crack a joke and uses humor for all life’s problems, including the loss of his wife. This drives Nate insane. Bob thinks his son might benefit from some discipline and sends him to work at ELLIS (Willie Carpenter), an ex-Marine who oversees operations in the area. Nate discovers a senior citizen theatre troupe performing a musical while at work. Nate is willing to assist, but soon realizes that it will be difficult to convince these women to work together. DEE (Annie Potts), one of the women, invites Nate to dinner and not so subtly sets him up with ALLISON (Ingrid Michaelson). The situation reaches a boiling point when Bob discovers a clip of Nate’s older play. The father and his son come to realize that they have different ways of telling stories and learn to respect each other. –Spitting Cobra Films
