You and your family are cursed forever and ever if Madame Zeroni forgets to pay you back. These were exactly the words that Elya Yelnats heard when he failed to pay Madame Zeroni. His family suffered from bad fortune ever since. Stanley Yelnats IV, a hundred years later, is charged with stealing a pair cleats from an MLB player. He was then sent to Camp Green Lake in the middle the desert. Camp Green Lake is dry and it never rains. It hasn’t been for over 100 years. Each inmate is required to dig one hole every day by the Warden, a mysterious and secretive guardian. The Warden makes the inmates work twice as hard when an artifact of “Kissin Kate” Barlow’s is discovered in one hole. This leads Stanley to conclude that the Warden wants to find something. What is it? How is Camp Green Lake’s mystery connected to Stanley’s cursed family? –O.G.
