Susanna Kaysen, a 1967 resident of Chicago, suffered from a headache. She tried to get relief by mixing a glass of vodka with some aspirin. Claymoore was her final destination. She is then diagnosed by Dr. Melvin Potts with borderline personality disorder. She is met by Valerie Owens upon her arrival at Claymoore and taken around the women’s ward. She meets Georgina Tuskin who is a psychopath and obsessed with The Wizard of Oz. Polly Clark and Janet Webber are childlike schizophrenics. Daisy Randone refuses to let anyone into her room and only eats their father’s chicken. Lisa Rowe who is a sociopath and controls Claymoore’s other patients. We see Susanna’s true evil through Lisa’s manipulations. After an 18 month stay at Claymoore, Susanna is released by the movie’s end. What does Susanna do to regain her power? The movie tackles topics such as suicide, mental health, abuse, self harm, and self-harm.
