Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher is based on real events and tells the fascinating and dark story of an unlikely, but ultimately tragic, relationship between a multi-millionaire eccentric and two world champion wrestlers. Mark Schultz, an Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler, is invited to join John Du Pont’s estate to help create a team for training at his state-of the-art facility. Du Pont, driven by his hidden desires, supports Schultz’s bid to win Gold as well as the opportunity to coach a top-notch wrestling team. Mark is trapped in Du Pont’s suffocating, but majestic, world and begins to view his benefactor, an arrogant, selfish, and egotistical megalomaniac. Du Pont becomes a mercurial person and lures Mark to an unhealthy lifestyle, which threatens his training. Du Pont soon begins to disrupt the environment and motivate Mark with his unpredictable behavior and dangerous psychological game-play. Du Pont begins to become fixated on Dave who exudes the same confidence Du Pont lacks. Du Pont soon realizes that he cannot buy the respect from some of the greatest wrestlers in the world. The trio are driven by Du Pont’s growing paranoia, and their alienation from each other. It is a tragic outcome that no one could have predicted. –Sony Pictures Classics
