Double Bed
This is a movie that was made as part of Nikkatsu's "Roman Poruno (Porn)" series movies. This was about as explicit as they can be in the '80s Japan. Today, this movie might even pass as a regular drama.Kato (Ittoku Kishibe) is a small time TV producer. He has a wife Masako (Naoko Otani), and a young son Taro. Kato also has a friend Yamazaki (Akira Emoto) who he knew since college. Yamazaki has a girl friend Riko (Eri Ishida) who lives with her younger sister Yuko (Hitomi Takahashi) who's an actress. Yamazaki is a lyric writer/womanizer and he starts to have an affair with Masako, but he's still going out with Riko. Riko really isn't too enamored with Yamazaki or to any man as for that matter. She has some deep rooted distrust for men in general. One day, Katoh comes home when Masako and Yamazaki is having an affair. Masako is in a skimpy negligee and claims that Yamazaki "just happened to drop by in the morning after getting drunk". Amazing thing is Katoh just pretends to believe this story, but he knows. Masako believes her marriage with Kato is over, but Kato has no desire to get a divorce. Masako starts to live with Yamazaki, but Kato goes to his house to pick Masako up. Riko shows up at Yamazaki's house, and sees that Masako is there. She understands that Yamazaki is fooling around with Masako too. She goes home and finds Yamazaki with her sister Yuko. Riko thinks she's is pregnant but doesn't know who the father is.All star cast of Ishida, Kishibe, Otani, Takahashi, and Emoto makes this an above average movie for Roman Poruno series movie, and stands up even as a regular movie. Based on a novel by Chinatsu Nakayama of the same title, Daburu Beddo (Double Bed) is a story about people's lives that are changed by promiscuity of one man. Their lives are changed and starts to roll down hill. The focus of the movie is the nude scenes by Otani and Ishida, as the movie was made to have sexual contents. Otani and Ishida were popular at the time as being sexy actresses. Interesting movie to watch even as a cultural piece from the '80s Japan. You get to see how people's lives were back then. You can see that despite its economic prosperity, it was difficult for the Japanese people to find their purpose in life.
