Dirty Dancing (1987)
Frances “Baby” Houseman is a sweet, daddy-loving girl who travels with her family to the Catskill Mountains in New York. Baby grew up in privilege and everyone expects her to attend college and join the Peace Corps to save the world. Baby falls in love with Johnny Castle, the camp’s dancing instructor. His background is very different than hers. Baby lies to her dad to obtain money for Johnny’s illegal abortion. Then, she takes over as Johnny’s dancing partner. It is while he is teaching them the routines that they fell in love. When Johnny’s friend becomes seriously ill from her abortion, Baby rescues her life. The father learns about Baby’s activities, and who he is with. His daughter is then banned from being associated with any “those persons”. Baby then makes a willful decision to go to Johnny. This is her first time intentionally willful. Baby is seen by a jealous vacationer sneaking out from Johnny’s bungalow. He tells Johnny, in retaliation, that he was responsible for the theft of the night before. Amanda W., as amended by Linda C.
