Joshua Collins and Naomi Collins set sail in 1752 from Liverpool, England with their young son Barnabas to begin a new life here. Their family has been plagued by a mysterious curse for decades. Barnabas (Johnny Depp), has the entire world under his control, or at least Collinsport in Maine. Barnabas, the master of Collinwood Manor is rich and powerful, but he also makes the terrible mistake of falling in love with Eva Green (Angelica Bouchard). Angelique, a witch in every sense, makes him a victim to an evil fate. She turns him into a vampire and then buries him alive. Barnabas, two centuries later is accidentally freed from the tomb and enters the world that changed in 1972. His once-grand estate, Collinwood Manor, is now in ruin. Each of the dysfunctional Collins descendants has their dark secrets and have not fared well. Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Matriarch (Michelle Pfeiffer), has called on Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), a live-in psychiatrist to assist her with family problems.
