Cinema Paradiso

After hearing about the passing of a friend, a boy from Sicilian Village who was raised there returns to his homeland as a well-known director. Salvatore tells a story in flashback about his childhood, and the relationship he had with Alfredo (a Cinema Paradiso projectionist). Alfredo was Salvatore’s father and he introduced him to filmmaking. The two spent hours talking about movies, while Alfredo meticulously taught Salvatore how to make films. This film shows the viewer the changing landscape of cinema as well as the declining trades in traditional editing, screening and filmmaking. The film also examines the dreams of a boy who wants to leave his small town and explore the outside world. –Clarisse P.
