Churchill’s Secret

Two years later, in June 1953, after being reelected as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Winston Churchill (Sir Michael Gambon), collapses at 10 Downing Street. He is diagnosed by Bill Paterson (Dr. Lord Moran) with a stroke and taken to Chartwell, his home country. The newspaper owners agree to publish the lies. His children come to his aid and argue over Randolph (Matthew Macfadyen) drinking habits, as well as Sarah (Rachael stirling) movie career. Winston’s wife Clemmie, Lindsay Duncan, reflects upon the death of her other daughter in infancy. As Moran informs the Cabinet of his events, Millie Appleyard (RomolaGarai), a plain-spoken Yorkshire nurse is brought in to take care of the great man. Churchill is able to speak at the Conservative Party conference in May with her support and the devotion of his wife. He then retires as prime minister two years later. The country was unaware that Churchill had been hiding something. –don @ minifie-1
