Carrie (1976)

The school year is almost over. Carrie White, high school senior, is an outcast due to her inability to understand the world and the lessons she learned from her childhood. Margaret White is her mother. She is an extreme religious fanatic and views strongly against sex. Even natural associative processes like menstruation, she believes are sinful. She has not spoken out to Carrie about it. Because of the fact that her marriage failed and Ralph, her husband, had sex with another woman long before her death, Mrs. White believes these extreme views. Miss Collins is the only adult authority who attempts to assist Carrie in her daily life. However, Miss Collins is warned to not get too involved to challenge Mrs. White’s decision to raise Carrie. Mrs. White is well-known for her beliefs. Carrie’s classmates in phys education are punished for an impromptu incident that took place. Chris Hargensen (self-absorbed student) vows to take revenge on Carrie over the punishment and the way he did it. Sue Snell, a popular student, starts to feel sorry and for Carrie. Sue offers to go with Tommy Ross her boyfriend to accompany Carrie on her senior prom. Mrs. White doesn’t like this move and believes Carrie will sin. These competing concerns lead Carrie to decide to learn a new skill in order to break free from all the chains she has been enslaved to. Tragic results! –Huggo
