Border (2018)
Tina has felt very self-conscious about her appearance, despite having giddy, almost animal-like features. Tina has: Roland, her boyfriend and dog trainer at her house in the woods; her father who believes he’s using Tina; her unconditional support and love; her small circle of friends. She also enjoys the admiration and respect of her supervisors and colleagues at Ferry Terminal, where she can literally “smell” emotions such as guilt and fear. She uses that natural ability to stop a straight-laced individual from entering the country. He was carrying child pornography on his memory card. Agneta her supervisor places her in a small investigation unit to find the source of the material. Tina’s surprise is rewarded when Vore, an Entomologist, is incorrectly identified as the person who was going through customs. Vore has similar, almost animal-like, physical characteristics to Tina. He is not found to have any incriminating evidence. Tina and Vore meet at various customs crossings. Tina is astonished to discover that they have a mutual friend. Tina discovers more about Vore and herself as she goes. Tina must decide whether she will give up the life that she knows in order to pursue Vore’s future, which might be contrary to what she believes to be the best thing about being human. –Huggo
