Annie
This production by Overbrook Entertainment/Sony Pictures features the 1977 Broadway musical about a Harlem foster child. Quvenzhane Wallace, Beasts of the Southern Wild’s star, plays the role. She is taken in by Jamie Foxx (a billionaire who wants to become mayor). Annie Wallis, who was abandoned by her biological parents when she was a child, spends her days trying to escape the cruelty of Miss Colleen Hannigan (Cameron Diaz), every minute of each day. Annie’s life begins to turn around when she meets Will Stacks, a prominent local cell-phone mogul and mayoral hopeful. Stacks’ campaign doesn’t go well until he meets Annie. This is at his suggestion of Grace, his top assistant and Guy (Bobby Cannavale), who are both ambitious PR professionals. The PR stunt originally intended to appeal to skeptical voters turns into something more when the old tycoon discovers that his friend is more than just a good-luck charm.
