Roald Dahl’s The Witches

Robert Zemeckis, a visually inventive filmmaker, reimagines Roald Dahl’s classic story to appeal to a contemporary audience. This film is darkly comical and touching. It tells the tale of an orphan boy, who in 1967 moves in with his Grandma, in Demopolis, Alabama. The boy’s grandmother meets some diabolical, but deceptively beautiful witches and she cleverly takes him to a resort at the seaside. They arrive just as the Grand High Witch of the World has assembled her undercover gangsters from all over the globe to carry out her evil plans. Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro are among Zemeckis’s team, as is Kenya Barris. Stars include Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer as well as Kristin Chenoweth, Stanley Tucci and Kristin Chernoweth. Jahzirkadeen Bruno is the young brave hero. –Warner Bros./HBOMax
