War of the Arrows
The King Injo guards chase two children Nam-yi (and Ja-in) and they are saved by Choi Pyeongryung, an officer in King Gwanghae’s army and a proficient archer. His children are sent by him to seek refuge with Kim Mu-seon, his best friend. Ja-in, crying as they flee, begs her sister to return to their father. Nam-yi kills their father. Nam-yi is bitten by guard dogs but he kills them all and escapes with Jain. Nam-yi is the sole family Jain has. Nam-yi, now a proficient archer and hunter 13 years later. With the blessing of Mu-seon, Ja-in and he plan to marry. Nam-yi can be seen up high hunting deer during the wedding. The sound of invading troops echoes through his ears. Nam-yi returns to his village only to find his stepfather dead and his sister missing. Nam-yi sets off to locate the Qing army, and takes out their army using his bow. –Raja Bhattacharya
