The Hippopotamus

The Hippopotamus, a country mystery with a wickedly funny comedy of manners is actually a hilarious adaptation of Stephen Fry’s best-selling novel. The story centers around Ted Wallace, a poet who has lost his voice, acted as a drama critic and is now a redundant husband. He also plays the role of Roger Allam, a rare star. Ted is fired from his newspaper job and jumps at the opportunity to drown his griefs at Swafford Hall, his friend. The household has been in turmoil after a series of miraculous spiritual healings. Ted (Tommy Knight), Ted’s teenage son and miracle worker, is the one who claims to be the “miracle worker”. Lord Logan and Lady Logan set out to share their son’s miracle-working “gift” with all of the world. They are blissfully unaware that “laying on hands” is a trick which emphasizes the importance on “laying”. Ted is at odds with an eclectic group of guests who are only too willing to swallow any information they give him. He sets out to show the world that miracles can be a hoax to save his son from embarrassment and a life of shame.
